Nancy Ewart

One of my friends asked me if I found inspiration from any of the places that I lived in as a Navy brat. Well, of course I do; all of us are formed by our past. But the inspiration is not necessarily direct. Maybe my love of hot vibrant colors comes from my years in the tropics and the Mediterranean, but it’s difficult to know. I’m not a scientist at all but the amazing variety of objects and images found in nature do stimulate my imagination. I did a series of paintings that were inspired by the images of the universe posted on the NASA web site. My life drawing classes have encouraged me to start drawing and painting the human form. My walks through SF have given me new insight into urban space, including graffiti. I love poetry and read a lot of it. T.S. Eliot is one of my favorites along with Rilke. I guess that my imagination is a many-chambered palace (or ramshackle mansion!) where new rooms are being added all the time. We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. T.S. Eliot
