I am attracted to and inspired by the patterns and simple shapes found in nature. Our busy world is chaotic, but in nature I find a chaos that brings a restful respite from the day to day human trials. My connection to nature, as well as my Buddhist mindfulness practice, is what I draw upon when I work.
Metal. It is man-made as well as natural. It is my canvas. Like a Zen alchemist, I work the surface, creating patinas through the application of an eclectic mix of chemicals and compounds to copper, brass, aluminum and steel. Through multiple applications I strive to achieve an amazing range of patterns, textures and colors. These are then cut up and applied to geometric box shapes or bent and shaped into non representational wall sculptures.
As a jeweler, my interest is in the transformation of simple, plain materials into beautiful objects. The end results are distinctive one-of-a-kind personal adornments with wonderful tactile qualities and visual interest.
